MHS Librarian! User Help
------------------------
The MHS Librarian! allows users to request information from one MHS site
to be forwarded to them at another. The MHS Librarian! is an MHS gateway
that is run on the MHS Server. When mail is received by the gateway, MHS
Librarian! will generate a reply message to the originator with the
requested file attached.
MAKING REQUESTS
---------------
Requests are made by creating a message to LIBRARY@HOST, placing the
keyword in the subject line of the message.
A listing of available files can be requested by sending a message to
MHS Librarian! with the keyword of INDEX.
NOTE: In the examples below, replace PASSWORD with the actual password,
and KEYWORD with the actual keyword.
If the system supervisor has created special items in the list that
have been password protected, and you have been told the password, you
can request the index of files by using the keyword in the form:
PASSWORD=INDEX
If an item you want to request has been protected by a password, and you
know the password, you can enter PASSWORD=KEYWORD on the subject line of
the message.
You can also request multiple items by specifying them on the subject
line of the message, separated by spaces as shown below:
KEYWORD1 PASSWORD=KEYWORD2 INDEX HELP
ADDRESSING THE MESSAGE
----------------------
The MHS username for the MHS Librarian! Gateway will vary, based upon the
installation, but for this discussion, we will assume LIBRARY @ HOST.
MHS Librarian! assumes that it is to send the information requested to the
return address of the sender of the request, unless specified otherwise
in the TO: field using MHS's extended address scheme.
Addressing Examples:
LIBRARY @ HOST
This will generate a message with the requested file attached and
address it to the sender of the request.
LIBRARY @ HOST {USERNAME@REMOTE}
This will generate a message with the requested file attached and
send it to USERNAME @ REMOTE.
LIBRARY @ HOST {USER2@HOST2 | more address junk}
This will create a message to USER2 @ HOST2 {more address junk}.
